Ground Defense

The objective of the "Ground Defense" course is not to learn how to fight on the ground, but to defend yourself when you come to a difficult position on the ground.
Although in Krav-Maga we can not ignore the techniques of fighting on the ground is equally true that the purpose of Krav-Maga is not to fight on the ground. The Krav-Maga is not a traditional combat sport, in the sense that there are no established rules, no dead times with rounds, no referees to stop the fight or to guard an injured adversary. The attack is by its unexpected nature, no rules, and when, from the point of  view of the aggressor, we are in a situation of inferiority, both physical and  numerical, this can lead to severe psychological or physical consequences.
We do not train for a sporting fight where points need to be scored, but for a fight in which we have to fight for our own safety or that of a third person.
Of course, it is best to avoid going to the ground because mobility would be reduced and it would be much harder to run away quickly if the aggressor is armed or involved in complicity.
However, it would be inconceivable to ignore defense on the ground because in a street fight, a fall can always happen and even the aggressor might try to take you to the ground on purpose.
In these situations, it is essential to be able to get away quickly, to counterattack and to know effective defense solutions.
Techniques in some sports such as Grappling, Jiu Jitsu Brasilian or Judo are essential to win an opponent on the ground. However, they are not complete because they are limited by arbitration rules that can not allow techniques or dangerous actions because they must consider the adversary's safety.
In Krav-Maga, we also need to know ground defense against aggressors armed with dangerous objects.
Therefore, it is important to know the defense of this type of aggression that envisages the main purpose, to break free and to stand up as quickly as possible, or to run away or to face the same opponent or a standing accomplice.
In light of the above, it is essential to have ground fighting bases. in order to release ourselves quickly and  to get up again as fast as possible.
